Midnight Piano Session #1

What is the Piano? What is the Keyboard?

Before touching a single key, let's understand the instrument itself. Piano and keyboard are not the same thing — and the choice matters.

The Piano

Mechanical instrument, chord-based like a guitar. Expensive. Heavy. Difficult to maintain.

  • Authentic — the sound is pure and real
  • I recommend it for intermediate and advanced players
  • Highly recommended for classical players (Mozart, Chopin...)
  • Not recommended for other styles, even at an advanced level
  • Also excellent for decoration — it's stylish

The Keyboard

Electrical instrument. Can simulate many real instruments (guitar, strings, brass...). A great substitute for the piano — even grand piano mode.

Comes in different weights, usually lighter. Easy to maintain if good quality.

  • I highly recommend Yamaha
  • Some models are very close to a real piano feel
  • Cheaper options exist, and expensive ones too
  • Great for learning without the cost or the space

💡 Start with a keyboard. It's practical, versatile, and will carry you far.

Notes — What Are They?

Each key produces a note. Each note is a sound tied to a specific frequency. A4 = 440Hz. A5 = 880Hz — double the frequency, one octave higher.

Modern keyboards have 88 keys. They follow a repeating pattern of white and black keys. Once you see the pattern, you see the whole instrument.

"The more you understand what you play, the more you feel it. And when you feel it — that's when the magic happens."
