A scale is a set of notes arranged in a specific pattern — like a musical staircase. Every melody, every chord, every song is built from scales. Learning them unlocks the whole piano.
Whole Steps & Half Steps
A half step (H) = 1 key (includes black keys). A whole step (W) = 2 keys.
Every scale follows a fixed pattern of whole and half steps. That pattern is what gives the scale its character — major sounds bright, minor sounds deep.
C Major — Your First Scale
C Major is the only scale with no sharps, no flats — all white keys. That's why we always start here.
💡 C Major is the map. Once you understand its pattern, every other scale is just a transposition.
7 Major + 5 Natural Minor Scales
There are 7 major scales and 5 natural minor scales to know at this level. Each has a unique mood and a set of real songs that belong to it.
We will explore them one by one. For now — play C Major up and down, slow and clean, until it feels natural.
