The story of chords: how I collect music and respect copyleft

3K songs is a lot of music. So the fair question is: where does it come from, and is it done right? Here is my honest answer.

Chords are a language

Chords and harmony are the shared vocabulary of music. Learning them is what lets you play any song — that is what the app teaches.

What belongs to artists is their specific work: the recordings, the lyrics, the original arrangements. That is the line I try to never cross.

How I collect songs

I stick to sources I can stand behind:

  • Public domain works, free for everyone
  • Copyleft / openly licensed material, used within the terms of its license
  • My own arrangements and transcriptions

Credit and respect

Every song keeps its composer and context. That is also why the blog tells the story behind each song — the people behind the music matter.

If you are an artist or rights holder and something should be credited differently or removed, reach out through the contact page and I will act on it.
